Training

Our training started on 18th January and over the following months we will be increasing the weights carried and distances travelled.

If anyone would like to join us on a training ride please let us know, any extra riders are welcome (panniers are optional)

Saturday 3rd May

Our first pannier ride! We met up in Honiton and went around the hills of East Devon. Despite a few bike problems we managed some decent miles, at a much slower rate than we’ve been used to. The ride files for: Steve & Shane

Friday 18th April

Steve (Nelly) & Shane went to west Devon & North Cornwall on good Friday. An early start from Exeter allowed us to get to Bude around lunchtime. The sun was out and despite a chilly wind it was great weather. A good average speed was achieved although in the future we’ll be starting to add panniers which will slow us down. Ride files for each rider are here: Steve & Shane

Saturday 5th April

We met up again for another training ride in Honiton, without panniers which will be added soon. Steve used his bike for the trip which allowed Shane (on his road bike) to be able to keep up and even get up a couple of hills ahead of Steve (this is a first!!). The ride files are here: Steve and Shane

The day was very misty and damp and we didn’t take any pictures, we couldn’t see much anyway!

Saturday 22nd March

Our third ride again started in Honiton (being midway between each of our homes). It was colder than last week and there was even snow on Dartmoor, we’re glad we weren’t riding there! We both used road bikes, but will soon start using the bikes we will use on the trip, with panniers. We had a pit stop in Exmouth where we stopped at the Crusty Cob, one of our sponsors, where we enjoyed a bite to eat before the return leg. While there we made some new friends (see pics below). GPS ride details are as follows: Steve & Shane

Saturday 15th March

Steve (Nelly) and Shane met up in Honiton for our second ride together. Nelly rode his new bike, with panniers, while Shane took it a bit easier and used his road bike. The weather was generally good so we managed to get some decent miles in. We had a pit stop in  Culmstock before the ascent up to Dunkeswell. Saturday 1st March

Although Steve and Shane haven’t been able to meet up for a ride for several weeks we have both been in training separately . Shane started March off with a bang by riding the Nello route (the 100 mile training route Nello and Marc used). It was an early start and thankfully the weather was good so he was able to do a few extra miles afterwards. GPS ride details are here

Saturday 18th January

The weather for the first ride started fairly well and we thought the forecasters had got it wrong. Less than an hour in we realised they hadn’t! It was wet, windy and even had hailstones. The good news is that the real ride should have much better weather. GPS ride details for each rider: Steve and Shane
